UAE, Guangdong trade surges to $2.24b

Guangdong, one of the pilot regions in the People's Republic of China boosting the modernisation drive with GDP reaching $260 billion in 2005 offers tremendous investment opportunities for the UAE investors.


In 2005, Guangdong's import and export value stood at $428 billion and by the end of 2005, it has attracted Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $162.9 billion, said Lang Yaowen, director-general of the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province.

He also added: “In 2005, the import and export value between Guangdong and the UAE stood at $2.24 billion, up by 23.2 per cent, accounting for 20.8 per cent of the trade volume between the two countries. Looking into the new century, the trade and economic cooperation between Guangdong and the UAE enjoys a golden time and enormous potentials, with unlimited business opportunities and bright future. The UAE is the third largest industrialised country in the Arab world and among its export products, oil, natural gas and petrochemicals are mostly required by our province. Guangdong is one of the regions with the strongest comprehensive economic power in China with various industrial developments."

He was addressing the China(Guangdong Province)-UAE Business seminar held yesterday under the co-sponsorship of the Chinese Embassy in the United Arab Emirates and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and organised by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province.

The Guangdong Province has formed nine pillar industries such as electronic information, electrical mechanism, petrochemicals, automobile, medicine, papermaking, textile and clothes, foodstuff and beverage, construction material. Guangdong's enterprises such as TCL, ZTE and Huawei have established their subsidiaries in the UAE to cooperate with their counterparts and have achieved excellent results.

Abdul Rahman G. Al Mutaiwee, Director General of DCCI also highlighted the business potentials between Dubai and Guangdong.
