Qatar University (QU) is hosting a Career Fair from April 24 to 27, it was announced yesterday. Minister of Finance HE Yousef Hussein Kamal will be the guest of honour at the opening.
This is the first time in the history of QU that the event is being held for the whole university.
The practice during the last 11 years was for various colleges at QU to hold their own Career Fair or professional days.
A total of 28 premier companies and organisations are participating,” organising committee’s chair and associate vice president for Student Affairs, Dr Omar al-Ansari told a press conference.
Organising committee member and associate dean for Academic Affairs, Dr Hassan al-Fadala, and steering committee members Zeina al-Azmeh (director, External Relations) and Abdulla al-Mansoori (director, Career Services Office) were also present on the occasion.
The Career Fair will be held in a tent opposite the Admission and Registration Building of QU. The timing is from 8am to 6pm on all days. On April 26 and 27, entry is only for women from 8am to 1pm.
Dolphin, RasGas, Qatar Petroleum, Shell, QEWC, and Commercialbank are the sponsors of the exercise which is being described as an ideal opportunity for recruiters to meet, interview and interact with many of the best and brightest students, and alumni, of QU.
The university is to graduate approximately 1,500 students from various majors in May this year. About 1,000 rising senior year students are looking for summer internships, and about 5,000 other students are seeking to develop professional contacts.
Senior officials from various colleges of QU are to give presentations highlighting the salient features of the programmes they offer and competencies of their students.
The other participants of the Career Fair are the following: Total, Oryx GTL, QNB, Schlumberger, Occidental, IBQ, Qafac, Goic, QChem, Dagoc, Consolidated Contractors, Qtel, Kahramaa, Amwal, Doha Bank, Ashghal, New Horizons, Maersk Oil Qatar, Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Qafco, Qasco, and Qatar Airways.
